KUALA LUMPUR, 13 July 2023 – Aqara, a leading provider of smart home products, announced today its official launch in Malaysia in partnership with Hello Smart Sdn Bhd, Aqara's authorized distributor and service partner in Malaysia. The launch will expand Aqara’s market presence in Malaysia, where sales of smart home devices are expected to more-than-double to RM2.7 billion by 2027.
Aqara’s Global Sales Manager Harry Zhang said:
“Since Aqara first entered the Malaysian market in 2019, we have witnessed back-to-back annual sales growth of 100%. This remarkable achievement speaks to the strong demand for Aqara’s revolutionary smart home solutions, including our home monitoring systems, door locks and security cameras, which deliver incredible benefits in terms of ease, convenience, security, and peace of mind. Today, we are thrilled to launch Aqara officially in Malaysia, along with four of our new, innovative smart home products. By bringing the best of what Aqara has to offer, we believe Aqara can ride the growth of Malaysia’s smart home market, which is expected to be worth RM2.7 billion by 2027.
Malaysia’s smart home market is still at an early stage of growth, with total smart home device sales estimated at US$268.2 million (RM1.25 billion) in 2022, according to Statista, a research firm.
In Malaysia, just one out of ten homes (13.8%) have a smart home device, according to Statista. This figure is set to nearly double by 2027, rising to 26.0% as market awareness accelerates, the cost of smart devices drops, and the technology’s capabilities increase. This higher penetration rate is expected to lead to smart home device annual sales more-than-doubling to US$581.70 million (RM2.71 billion) in 2027.
But even this estimate leaves a lot of room for growth. Among smart home device owners in Malaysia, average annual spending on smart home technology is forecast to hit US$247 in 2027, more than 50% lower than the US$547 spent by U.S. smart home device owners in 2022.
As demand for these products accelerates in Malaysia, smart home technology is being rolled out across major residential projects including Gamuda Land’s Gamuda Cove in the southern Klang Valley, OSK Property’s Ryan & Miho in Petaling Jaya and IJM Land Bhd’s Swans @ Bandar Rimbayu in Selangor.

Aqara Door and Window Sensor P2: A Next-Level Smart Home Essential
First teased at CES 2022, Aqara's Door and Window Sensor P2 can detect if a window or door is opened or closed. Plugged into a smart home ecosystem, this feature becomes a launchpad for users to create smart home automations. For instance, if the Door and Window Sensor P2 detects your door or window is open, the device can turn off your thermostat to reduce energy consumption and your carbon footprint. The Door and Window Sensor P2 can also enhance the security of your home, let you check remotely whether your windows are closed when it starts to rain, or even alert you to an unclosed freezer door. As one of the first sensors to support Matter natively over Thread, the Door and Window Sensor P2 connects directly to Apple Home, Google Home, Amazon Alexa, Samsung SmartThings and more via the third-party Thread Border Router. It will support Aqara Home in the near future through a Matter-compatible Aqara Thread Border Router. This will build rich and varied smart home scenarios and can work entirely on your local network.
Aqara Smart Face Recognition Door Lock D200i: A revolutionary, secure authentication system
Aqara's D200i door lock delivers a revolutionary, secure and new way for you to unlock and authenticate people entering and exiting your property. Besides allowing you to unlock your door with your face, 8 other unlock modes are available, with owners able to set up the usage of a one-time password, a mechanical key, Bluetooth, remote unlock, NFC, Apple Homekit/Siri, house keys, or password logins.
