Sunway Malls emerged as the biggest winner in the seventh edition of the prestigious Persatuan Pengurusan Kompleks (PPK) Malaysia Award with six (6) awards, the highest number of wins to a mall group in PPK Malaysia history.

The annual award night was held at Sunway Resort Hotel recently in conjunction with their 40th Anniversary celebration. It was celebrated with various key retailers and Sunway Group founder and chairman, Tan Sri Sir Dr. Jeffrey Cheah KBE AO.
Malaysian Tourism Promotion Board (Tourism Malaysia) Chairman, Datuk Dr. Yasmin Mahmood officiated the ‘Ruby Radiance’ celebration with a keynote speech in addressing the role played by Malaysia’s mall industry in the nation tourism sector. Tourism Malaysia’s aim is to enhance Malaysia's position as a shopping hub, by promoting the country as one of the world’s best shopping destinations.
With the rapid growth of malls in Malaysia in the last 50 years, the industry has earned a recognition globally for its festive ambience and innovative campaigns inspired from the country’s multi ethnicity. To encourage and elevate the industry’s professionalism, PPK Malaysia has been recognising mall players for their top-notch experiential marketing campaigns through its annual award night celebration since 2016.
Following the success of the Best Experiential Marketing category which recognises creative marketing campaigns, PPK Malaysia introduced the Top Sustainability Practices category to acknowledge significant contributions to Environment, Social and Governance (ESG) and the sustainability agenda.
Overall, PPK received 78 entries for this year’s awards. Collectively, Sunway Malls won six awards – dominating the sustainability category with four wins.
“Sunway Malls’ record-breaking achievement is a testimony of our commitment to innovation, creativity and sustainability. As malls become increasingly public spaces, it is important we continue to connect at emotive and experiential levels,” said HC Chan, CEO of Sunway Malls.
For marketing and sustainability, Sunway Velocity Mall won two Platinum awards and Sunway Carnival Mall won two Gold awards. Additionally, Sunway Pyramid and Sunway Big Box Retail Park won a Silver award each for the sustainability category.
Sunway Velocity won two Platinum awards with ‘My Christmas Story - One Fabric at a Time’ and ‘A Journey Towards Net Zero Emission’ for Best Experiential Marketing and Top Sustainability Practices respectively.
Last year, Sunway Velocity Mall marked its name in the Malaysia Book of Records with the tallest fabric waste tree; a 40-foot Christmas tree made from 1.7 tonnes of upcycled fabric waste. The mall showcases their leadership in creative marketing and sustainability by dedicating every effort to their journey towards net zero carbon emissions and upholds Malaysia’s Shared Prosperity Vision 2030 and the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals.
Under the same categories, Sunway Carnival Mall won 2 Gold awards with ‘Fostering A Love for Reading with Le Petit Prince’ for Best Experiential Marketing and ‘Empowering Communities for Sustainable Growth’ for Top Sustainability Practices.
Sunway Carnival Mall is committed to make positive contributions to society by fostering a culture in support of SDG 4 Quality Education, through creative campaigns such as Le Petit Prince to encourage lifelong learning and a passion for literacy. The mall’s comprehensive sustainability practices are demonstrated through energy-efficient systems, inclusive community development, and ethical business practices to reduce carbon footprints whilst upholding ethical governance.
Similarly, Sunway Big Box won Silver with ‘Driving Energy Efficiency Through Solar and EV Infrastructure in Johor’ and Sunway Pyramid won Silver with ‘SCAN (Sustainability Collaboration Alliance Network) & REX (Retail Extended Learning)’.
Sunway Big Box advocated a wide range of sustainable practices that extends investments towards energy efficiency such as electric vehicle (EV) superchargers, EV bikes and solar panels.
Sunway Pyramid’s win encompasses of Sunway Mall’s partnership with United Nation Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN), Jeffrey Sachs Centre on Sustainable Development at Sunway University (JSC), Malaysia Retail Association (MRA) and Malaysia Retail Chain Association (MRCA) enabling inclusive education on sustainable business practices for all retailers in the industry.
Sunway Malls is currently one of Malaysia's largest mall owner-operators with seven established retail developments strategically located in townships and integrated developments to serve the greater community. The mall owner-operators have three projects in the pipeline including Sunway Ipoh Mall, which is slated to be Perak’s largest mall upon completion in 2027.
PPK Malaysia, also known as Malaysia Shopping Malls Association, was formed in 1984 as a major representative for local shopping malls. The esteemed association plays a significant role contributing to the nation’s phenomenal growth in the mall industry by uniting industry players and collaborating with ministries and government agencies.
