Malaysia’s premier motor show, the Kuala Lumpur International Motorshow (KLIMS) 2018, has made its return after a five-year hiatus, amid improving vehicle sales.
Car companies are using to KLIMS 2018 showcase their latest and special offerings as well as a teaser to what to expect next year.
Top marques such as Toyota, Daihatsu, Ford, Honda, Hyundai, Infiniti, Isuzu, Kia, Lexus, Mitsubishi, Nissan, Peugeot, Perodua, and Proton are participating at this year’s show, which was launched by Transport Minister Anthony Loke at at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC) yesterday.
KLIMS will end on December 2.
Meanwhile, Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA) president Datuk Aishah Ahmad said KLIMS, aims to attract 350,000 visitors this time.
She said the association, which represents members’ interests in the automotive industry, was hopeful it could be consequential in promoting a stronger automotive industry with the motor show.
She expected the industry to remain positive despite the slower economic growth.
“Based on MAA data, the country’s automotive industry of the country has grown rapidly in the last four decades. The total industry volume grew from 97,262 units in 1980 to close to 600,000 units last year,” Aishah added.
“Malaysia is also among the three largest automotive markets in Southeast Asia," she added.
Another bright spot in KLIMS 2018 is the showcase of a new technology concept of artificial intelligence, connectivity and renewable energy.
"This exhibition is an aggressive move involving all parties in determining the direction of future vehicles,” Aishah said.
In line with KLIMS 2018 “Beyond Mobility” theme, the carmakers are showcasing a very diverse powertrain technology landscape, connectivity and digitalisation, indicating that they seek to harness the lucrative potential of digital revolution even in a new market like Malaysia.
They believe digital technologies can go from idea conception to market in just a matter of time in this country.
