KUALA LUMPUR, 25 November 2019 – The Center of Applied Data Science (CADS), ASEAN’s first and only one stop platform and center of excellence for Data Science in the ASEAN region, and Malaysia Board of Technologists (MBOT) today formalized its collaboration in a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) exchange session to promote data science accreditation within Malaysia along with knowledge and expertise sharing.
The MoU was signed and exchanged by Tan Sri Dato’ Academician (Dr.) Ts. Ahmad Zaidee Bin Laidin, FASc., President of MBOT and Sharala Axryd, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of CADS.
Under the MoU, CADS will have their Analytics and Data Science training tracks as well as their Data Star Programme given professional accreditation by MBOT’s Technology and Technical Accreditation Council (TTAC). Participants that undergo the Analytics and Data Science training tracks will be awarded the title of ‘Ts.’ to signify their accomplishment in becoming Professional Technologists. Data Star Programme participants can start their journey as a member of MBOT in pursuing their ‘Ts.’ title.
“More companies are seeing the value in data-driven technologies, such as artificial intelligence (AI) and automation but are constantly in search of qualified talent to meet the increasing demand of Big Data skills. Getting our programmes professionally accredited will serve as a stamp of credibility and further strengthen validation of the data skills our participates acquire. Better still, data professionals typically saw a salary increase ranging anywhere from 20% to 40% after getting certified,” said Sharala.
She continued. “We are proud to have trained over 2,000 data professionals since 2015 with more classes still ongoing. The next generation of data professionals certified through our Data Star programme will lead to more world-class talent, further closing the digital skills gap within the nation. As a member of the TEP, CADS will play a key role in further developing the data, analytics and AI landscape within Malaysia.”
The official appointment of CADS as a member of MBOT’s Technology Expert Panel (TEP) is an especially momentous milestone, given that CADS is the first and only specialist of the data science technology field within the panel. While on the panel, CADS will assist and provide necessary advice to the TTAC for and during technology programme accreditation in addition to propose best practices for professionals in the data science technology field. Furthermore, professional assessment frameworks will also be developed and proposed by CADS to evaluate data professionals’ competencies and abilities.
