Kuala Lumpur, 24 March 2020. Zurich Malaysia (Zurich) today channeled RM160,000 to Selayang Hospital for the purchase of medical ventilators urgently needed to help the hospital supplement its current capacity to treat patients in this challenging time.
The funds are channeled from the surplus pool of its general takaful business - Zurich General Takaful Malaysia Berhad (Zurich General Takaful). It is part of the company's process to contribute a cumulative amount arising from excess in the Tabarru' Fund on behalf of the participants to philanthropic or life-saving causes.

Zurich General Takaful Chief Executive Officer Nazrul Hisham said, Zurich is committed to the wellbeing of Malaysians through both good and challenging times. In view of the current situation, we decided to contribute to the Malaysian healthcare sector when we were made aware of the shortage of essential healthcare equipment. Zurich General Takaful was able to secure and expedite the disbursement of our surplus funds with the swift support from our Board Chairman and Directors.
Our healthcare workers on the front lines have been and are still working very hard to contain and overcome this pandemic. We hope more can step in to play a part while conscientious citizens ease their work by adhering to the Movement Control Order to stay at home. We believe that when corporates and citizens cooperate with the public sector in times of need, we can help ease the burden on public healthcare. As aptly captured by the Malay saying, Berat sama dipikul, ringan sama dijinjing, he added.
